Bexleyheath Police Station Saved

Bexleyheath Police Station will remain open after the Mayor of London dropped his plans to close the police headquarters in Bexleyheath.

A vigorous campaign to save Bexleyheath Police Station from closure was mounted by Rt Hon David Evennett MP, Cllr Teresa O’Neill, and Cllr Gareth Bacon AM, as well as many local community groups, including Neighbourhood Watch. Letters were written to the Mayor during the consultation period, a petition was presented against the closure and Mr Evennett and Cllr O’Neill met the London Deputy Mayor, Sophie Linden, to highlight the follies of closing the current headquarters of Bexley police.

Mr Evennett commented: “this is really good news and I am glad the London Mayor listened and dropped his proposal. It is a real victory for local people and common sense”.

Cllr O’Neill said: “the decision reinforces the views of the many residents who raised the issues with us and is the right one for Bexley. We are delighted that the Mayor of London listened”.

Cllr Bacon stated: “a great result for the people of Bexley and the campaign at Council, Parliamentary, and London Assembly levels has paid off. I am glad the Mayor has seen the error of his original proposal and good sense has prevailed”.
